Westmont High School offers interscholastic athletic opportunities in 15 sports. To ensure the highest quality in our competitive efforts, these athletic teams follow the guidelines and expectations determined by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA). Westmont High School is affilated with the Interstate 8 Conference for conference play.

Baseball
All interested boys. Practice every day after school and Saturdays. Teams play about 25 games (weather permitting). Try-outs start in late February. There are three teams including freshmen, sophomore, and varsity levels.

Boys Basketball
All interested boys. The boys basketball season starts in early November and ends in late February. Individuals who make the team will be expected to attend daily practices. A typical practice lasts two hours and will start either at 3:00, 5:00, or 7:00. There are three teams including freshmen, sophomore, and varsity levels. Tournaments have traditionally been held during Thanksgiving and winter breaks.
When and how can students sign-up? Winter basketball try-outs will be held in early November.

Girls Basketball
All interested girls. The girls basketball season starts in early November and ends in mid February. Individuals who make the team will be expected to attend two-hour daily and Saturday practices and compete in all scheduled games. There are two teams including freshmen/sophomores and varsity levels.

All interested girls. Cheerleading participation spans the football season (August-October) and basketball season (November-February). The varsity basketball cheerleaders compete against teams from other schools. Cheerleaders may be selected to cheer one or more seasons.

Cross Country
All boys and girls who like to run! The cross country team begins its season in mid August a week before school opens. Practices are held from 8:00 to 10:30 am until school starts and then from 3:00 to 5:30 pm. Practices are held every day except Sunday, including Saturdays and some school holidays. Athletes are trained at their own skill level in order to increase their speed, strength and endurance. Meets are held twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays and all athletes are able to participate. Races are usually 3 miles in length.
The season concludes in late October with the Conference meet and varsity runners continue for three more weeks leading up to the State meet in Peoria the first week in November.
There are two teams for boys and girls including freshmen/sophomores and varsity levels.
When and how can students sign-up? Show up on Monday a week and a half before the first day of school at 8:00 ready to run or sign-up with Mr. Wolf beforehand and you will be contacted during the summer.

Golf
All interested boys and girls. Practice at Twin Lakes or the driving range after school everyday and participate in competitive play two or three times a week. No need to be a great golfer, just need to work hard at getting better. Practice starts in early August. There are two boy’s teams including a freshmen/ sophomore and varsity level and one girl’s team.
When and how can students sign-up? Sign-up at the Junior High in the spring of 8th grade or contact Mr DeLisle.

Football
All interested boys. The WHS football season is comprised of nine games for each level: freshmen; sophomore; and varsity teams. Practice is held Mondays through Thursdays for 2-1/2 hours per session with one game each week. Varsity also practices on Saturdays.
When and how can students sign-up? The football program accepts all players (no cuts). Sign-up for football in the spring of the preceding year. Boys can also sign-up at the 8th grade orientation night.

Soccer
All interested boys and girls. The boys soccer team plays in the fall. The girls season begins in the beginning of March and continues through mid-May. The team practices daily. Games are played on an average of two to three times per week.
When and how can students sign-up? A preseason meeting is scheduled before the season. Listen for announcements for further information. Girls Freshmen/Sophomore games will be scheduled based on participation.

Track and Field
All interested boys and girls. The season begins in late February/early March and ends in late May. The team practices every day from 3:00 until 5:30. Practices on nonattendance days are held from 8:00 until 10:30 a.m. There are two teams including freshmen/ sophomores and varsity levels. Track meets are generally on Tuesdays for all levels. Varsity meets are generally on Friday nights or Saturdays. The season concludes in mid May with the Sectional meet. Varsity participants who qualify for the State meet in Charleston, Illinois continue for one more week. Everyone is expected to help officiate at Junior High track meets.
When and how can students sign-up? There will be one meeting in December to discuss preseason conditioning. Another meeting for all athletes will be held the week before practice begins.

Volleyball
All interested girls. The preseason is the official try-out and begins during the second full week of August. Practice follows during the second to last week of August. There is a mandatory parent meeting at this time. Practice and tournaments will be held during Labor Day and Columbus Day. There are some Saturday tournaments. Daily practice is held for 9th – 12th graders. There are three teams including freshmen, sophomore, and varsity levels. Team members are expected to attend games to support other levels.
