Mostly, I'm in the library working with students and collaborating with teachers with the goal of promoting 21st Century skills and a culture of literacy that supports our curriculum and encourages reading for pleasure and personal growth.

I also teach the Changemakers course at Westmont High School.  Changemakers is an inquiry-based course in which students have the opportunity to create their own path of learning in an area about which they are passionate.   Student projects are unique and authentic expressions of learning that lead to some form of change or community action.  Students present their work throughout the school year to their peers and at the end of the year at the Annual CM Symposium.

Research Background:  As a Graduate Assistant and Fellow, I studied the impact of Food Deserts on urban communities and worked with educators and community leaders in Chicago's Paseo Boriqua neighborhood to develop an integrated science and math curriculum that would engage students in solving problems the community faced, including exploring ways to reduce the high rate of diabetes and heart disease among community members and increase access to fresh, affordable produce.
