General

 

PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)

Westmont High School will be offering the PSAT/NMSQT exam on Wednesday, October 13th from 8:00-12 pm at Westmont High School. The PSAT/NMSQT can qualify participating junior students for scholarships, including the National Merit Scholar Program. Interested sophomores may choose to take this exam as a practice. In general, students who score in the top 1% in the nation on the PSAT/NMSQT are deemed Semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Sophomore and juniors will still be provided several practice SAT opportunities throughout the year, this exam is only for those juniors who wish to compete for the National Merit Scholarship. All interested students should sign up with Ms. Grahn in the main office with a $20 fee before Friday, October 8th. Cash or check made out to Westmont High School will be accepted, spots are limited. 

Any student who plans to take an AP test this year MUST register for their exam before October 15.  Late fees will apply for registering after the deadline. Check with any AP teacher for the join codes.  If you have questions or need assistance please see Mr. Finlayson or Kappy for help.

Attention all Sophomores and Juniors, Come on out to Explore Day at Technology Center of DuPage on November 10th. Set out on an adventure and discover your talents in Auto Technology, Cosmetology, Multi Media, Nursing or 14 other programs to choose from.

JUNIORS:   Is your schedule so full you could not get into College Readiness?  Are you in a winter or spring sport and don't want to miss practices ?  Do you have a decent SAT score but really want to push the score up so that you have more college options?  Are you coming to PLC on Wednesdays and know you need more help?   Then, the after school SAT classes ,which are going to be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 - 4:30, are a great option.  Classes will be held for 5 weeks and start on Thursday, October 7th. Pick up an application from from Mr. Palmer, Mrs. Marose , Mrs. Pergande,  Mrs. Ritchey or the front office.

Seniors who are retaking the SAT this fall are more than welcome.

Clubs

The next Geography Club trip will be to attend the annual Open House Chicago event on Sunday, October 17. Hundreds of places in Chicago that are not normally open to the public will be open for us to explore. Permission slips are available in Google Classroom and Mr. Landreth's room. Your permission slips must be turned in by Thursday, October 14. See Mr. Landreth or Mr. Dunne with any questions.

Fall Play Stage Crew will meet after school in the auditorium today Monday, October 4. See Mrs. Mahmoud if you cannot attend.

Rotary Interact will meet again this Wednesday, October 6th at 7:40 am in room 125.   New members are always welcome.

Athletics

The Sentinel Cross Country teams had a spectacular day on Saturday at the Lisle Mane Event Invitational! The entire girls' team - Lizzy Szynal, Mikayla Hickey, Abby Strohmaier, Annikah Engstrom, and Callie Devine set season bests in running to an 11th place finish in a loaded field of more than 40 teams. The boys' team of Tim Rosland, Kaleb Sica, Henry O'Connor, Paul Tikhiy, and Quentin Jarlson also turned in great races with more season bests on their way to an 18th place finish in another big field of more than 40 teams. Big congratulations to Lizzy, who earned a plaque for her 9th place finish, Mikayla (19th place), and Tim (29th place) on their outstanding finishes in talented fields of over 200 runners.

Any athlete interested in joining wrestling!  There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, October 6 at 2:45 in the wrestling balcony.  You must have your 8 to 18 registration completed and a current physical on file

Cheerleading tryouts originally scheduled for October 7th have been postponed. We will have new dates shortly.

There are only 106 days until Track and Field. Will you be ready?
