Overview
Community School District 201 offers a two-way Dual language program. The CUSD 201 Dual Language program provide an opportunity for students learn a new language while learning academic content. Beginning in Kindergarten students from two different language backgrounds have the opportunity to learn together. Students of Spanish dominant homes and English dominant homes will have the opportunity to learn a new language together in classrooms comprised of 50% Spanish and 50% English dominant students. This enables all students to be language models, as well as second language learners. All students will learn to read, write, listen and speak in both languages.
This two-way program has an equal or near balanced number of English learners and Spanish learners. CUSD 201 uses a graduated language model of instruction, known as the 80-20 model.
