Overview

Community School District 201 offers a two-way Dual language program. The CUSD 201 Dual Language program provides an opportunity for students to learn a new language while learning academic content. Beginning in Kindergarten, students from two different language backgrounds can learn together. Students of Spanish-dominant homes and English-dominant homes will have the opportunity to learn a new language together in classrooms comprised of 50% Spanish and 50% English-dominant students. This enables all students to be language models and second-language learners. All students will learn to read, write, listen, and speak both languages.

This two-way program has an equal or near-balanced number of English learners and Spanish learners. CUSD 201 uses a graduated language model of instruction known as the 50-50 model.
