Incoming 9th Grade Students
Westmont High School is excited to invite all incoming 9th graders in the Class of 2025 and their families to participate in our remote Incoming 9th Grade Night on Thursday, February 18th. This event has been organized in a virtual format. The necessary link(s) will be shared with students and families as soon as they are available.
Additionally, hardcopy 2021-2022 WHS Course Selection Books and individual student envelopes, including course placement recommendations, will be available for pick up at the junior high school (for students currently enrolled at the junior high school) after the Incoming 9th Grade Night. Students attending a hybrid schedule will receive these materials in their classes on Friday, February 19th. For those students that are attending remotely, they will be able to pick up their materials in the vestibule outside of the WJHS main office on Friday, February 19th. Any families that are new to the district or students currently enrolled in one of our local private school feeders, packets/materials will be available for pick up the following Friday, February 26th from the main office at Westmont High School.
Individual course selection appointments with WHS counselors are scheduled to take place virtually on Monday, February 22nd and Wednesday, February 24th. Student appointment times will be listed on the materials they receive on Friday, February 19th. Any students not currently attending WJHS, will need to schedule their individual course selection appointments through our registrar's office for the week of March 1st. The WHS Counseling Department looks forward to meeting with all of our incoming 9th graders!
Course Selection for the 2021-2022 School Year
On Wednesday, January 13th, all current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will receive information about the 2021-2022 course selection process virtually through a scheduled Zoom presentation.
- 9th Grade - 9:00 - 9:45 a.m.
- 10th Grade - 10:00 - 10:45 a.m.
- 11th Grade - 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. (after their practice SAT test is over at 11 a.m.)
To prepare for the presentation, please review graduation requirements and classes offered at WHS by clicking on the 2021-2022 WHS Course Selection Book. Hard copies will also be available for students on January 19th, 21st, and/or 22nd. If students return to a hybrid schedule, they will receive them in their classes. If WHS continues with remote learning, students and families can pick them up in the WHS Main Office between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
After the presentation, course requests can be entered online through Skyward from Wednesday, January 13th at 8 AM until Monday, January 18th at 4 PM. To assist students with this process, we have prepared a helpful list of suggestions for students to follow when making appropriate course selection decisions. This document and a recording of the presentation will be posted to students’ Google Classroom.
To make course requests for the 2021-2022 school year, students need to log into Skyward and click on the “Course Requests” tab. In this section, students will be able to select as many as 14 semester classes for the following school year. All WHS courses that do not require special approval will be available for students to view and select as course requests through Skyward. Parents also have the option to view and update this information through Skyward Family Access.
Beginning on Tuesday, January 19th, all students will have an individual appointment to review their course requests. A schedule of appointments will be posted on Google Classroom for students to view. During these appointments, counselors will ensure that students are on track to meet WHS graduation requirements as well as college entrance requirements. If applicable, special approval courses (such as special education, TCD, or IVS classes) will also be addressed at that time.
As always, students are encouraged to take this course selection process very seriously. A summary of individual students' course selections will be mailed home in the month of March for parental review.
WHS Technology Center of DuPage (TCD) Application for the 2021-2022 School Year
Any students interested in attending the Technology Center of Dupage (TCD) during their junior or senior year MUST complete an application by January 22, 2021 even if they are in a program at TCD this school year.
The Technology Center of DuPage is Westmont High School's off-campus elective for college and career readiness. Interested sophomores/juniors may apply to a specific TCD program for their junior/senior year.
Note that there are limited spots available and priority will be given to seniors and the date by which this complete application is received (from students and parents). The WHS TCD Committee will review all submitted applications as well as credits, grades, attendance, and discipline. If selected, students will need to provide additional information directly to TCD with the assistance of their school counselor. This process will take place in February and/or March.
Again, the complete initial TCD application for Westmont High School students is due by Friday, January 22, 2021. All interested students are strongly encouraged to submit it as soon as possible. Please note that this completed application will be dated and time stamped. The application can be completed in the Google Form listed below.
Additional information about the programs offered at the Technology Center of DuPage can be found on the TCD website - tcdupage.org
